Welcome to Room 13, 2012

Published February 13, 2012 by ksseniorblog

In Room 13 we currently in the process of setting up our classroom programme. In the past 2 weeks we have set up our Spelling and Reading programmes. Our focus in Spelling is to learn new words from our spelling level. In Reading we are learning to understand what we read ( comprehend) and to retell a story/article. Basic Facts is also a big push in Room 13. We are encouraged to learn up to our 20 timetables and learn the associated families for division, addition and subtraction.

In Visual Art we are experimenting with primary and secondary colours. We are learning to blend colours, using pastel to finally create an art piece with a Maori theme ie: tiki, taniwha and animals.

Physical education we will be learning different skills used in Volleyball such as: dig, set and spike shot. Also we will be pratising the basic fundamentals used for the game.

After the completion of our PAT results for mathematics we have been streamed into mathematic groups and most classes will be working on Number.

In Room 13 we also learn to work hard and to care for others.

Basic Facts and Spelling

Published July 10, 2011 by ksseniorblog

In Room 13, it’s necessary to do Basic Facts and Spelling basically done every morning.

Basic Facts in Room 13 is a set of small mathematical equations that are mostly rather easy to solve. In Basic Facts the time limit is usually a few minutes but it can vary.

Spelling in Room 13 is learning a list of words suited to their spelling age. There are at least thirty different levels. The reason there are different levels is so the spelling list is not too difficult or too easy.

Room 13 do Basic Facts and Spelling because it’s a nice and simple way to start a great day! :)

Topic

Published June 22, 2011 by ksseniorblog

In topic we are learning about different countries. We were given a set amount of task to do and then using different media we than collected the information. The information once drafted is to be presented on a visual poster. We are expected to accompany our topic work with a 1 and a half minute speech about the country of our choice. Secondly we will also compare the difference between our chosen country and New Zealand.

We have just finished our swimming which concluded with a successful School Swimming Sports Day. We will continue to do crosscountry until the end of the term to improve our fitness. Room 13 are also doing a strengthening programme in which we have different stations to do exercises which promote CORE strength ie: bridges, burpees ect.

Literacy

Published June 13, 2011 by ksseniorblog

In Spelling we are increasing our vocabulary through  the use of a  thesaurus to replace words within a sentence.  Our Reading programme is designed to practice our understanding ( comprehension) and also to retell a piece of text in our own words. An extension to comprehension and writing in our own words we are doing a research activity of our choice.

Art in room 13

Published June 7, 2011 by ksseniorblog

In Room 13 we have completed two pieces of artwork. Our first artwork were self portraits in which we had to practise features on the face, but also proportion in relation to our face. We have also tried our hand at perspective drawing. Our classroom teacher modeled to us the key points needed for perspective drawing ie: horizontal, vertical lines and ruling back to the vanishing point. Then we designed our own DREAM BEDROOMS. We are currently learning to use a paintbrush for particular lines and mixing colours.
